NAHUM TSCHACBASOV
Nahum Tschacbasov (1899-1984)
Tschacbasov was a Russian-American artist who was widely exhibited and collected post WWII. Tschacbasov taught at the Art Students League and was represented by ACA Galleries and Perls Gallery in NYC. He also exhibited at the Whitney, the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, the Knox Albright Museum, the Chicago Institute of Fine Art and Corcoran Gallery. He studied under Adolph Gottlieb, Marcel Gromaire and Fernand Leger in Paris in the 1930's and later worked with Stanley Hayter in the 1940's.
His signature style is often described as a fusion of modernism, folk art and surrealism, with subject matter emphasising the human psyche.
Tschacbasov's work can be found in the permanent collections of The Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Whitney, the Brooklyn Museum, the Philadelphia Museum of Fine Art and the Jewish Museum.
